Keep on Truk-in

Luggage and airline stories abound and are usually the kind where the airlines are being bashed.  However, I can never forget the great service and efficiency of Continental airlines and the experience I had.

Coming back from Truk Lagoon, Guam is the first American port in our many legs of our journey.  Although the luggage was checked through to our final destination (New Jersey), we were instructed to get our luggage from the carrousel in Guam for the immigration inspectors and then place the luggage back on another carrousel for our bags to continue its journey with us.

Well, you guessed it!  I forgot one of my bags.  You see, going to Truk I had 3 bags (which stuck in my mind) but coming home, I had 4 since I checked my carry-on underwater camera gear.

As the plane soared over the mainland, and realizing my mistake, I could only berate myself for the sickening error. But lo and behold, when I went to retrieve my bags at journey’s end, all 4 cases were there, waiting to greet me.

It seems that Continental noticed the forlorn bag going around the carrousel, and matched it up with its rightful owner anyway after removing and inspecting it.  (and kept it with all its luggage partners!)

In today’s travel perils, here is a good luggage story.  How often do you hear that?
